Montgomery County Public Schools is in the process of introducing a system-wide computerized student registration website that will include all required forms and permission documents. Please check back in mid-July for updated information regarding access to this website.

Fall Sports Tryout and Summer Practice Information

If you are unable to attend the scheduled tryouts due to a family commitment that was made before the tryout dates were posted, you should attend the first day of practice or tryouts you are able to attend.

Missed tryout practices will put players at a disadvantage for making one of the teams.

Please email your sport coach if you have a conflict with fall sport tryout dates.  When you attend your first workout, you will be evaluated by the coaching staff and informed if you have been selected for a varsity or JV team.


  • Cheer Clinic 4:00-6:00pm August 9 through 11 in the Main Gym (bring all required forms to this session)
  • Tryouts are August 12 from 11:00am-1:00pm in the Main Gym

Summer 2017 Workout Schedule

Cross Country

Bring all forms to the first day of practice (August 9 at 8:00am). Be prepared to run four miles without stopping on the first day. Have a water bottle and sunscreen. Download these summer training suggestions.

Field Hockey

Tryouts starting August 14 through 17 from 9:00am-12:00pm at the PHS baseball outfield (cuts will be announced at the end of the day on August 17). Bring ALL paperwork on August 14. Paperwork check in will begin at 8:15am. Please be prompt as we will start warming up at 9:00am.

Equipment: Running shoes, shin guards, goggles, mouth guard, field hockey stick, and plenty of WATER.

We will have summer lifting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00-10:00am in the PHS weightroom starting on June 19.  We have a variety of other events including team camp, competitions, and team-building experiences over the summer.  Those dates and other information can be found on our website at

First day of Football Practice is August 9: Practice will be from 2:30-6:00pm on the practice field. Practice will be Monday – Saturday.

Equipment: Athletes will need to provide their own cleats and girdles. There will be a spirit wear sale in the beginning of the summer and the end of the summer to purchase other gear including t-shirts/shorts/practice pants/jersey/etc. Any other personal equipment can be purchased on your own on a need bases.

A current physical is also required to participate in the summer workout program and any other football activities starting on June 19.

Soccer Program Expectations and Guidelines

  • August 8: Turn in all forms to the coach from 6:00-6:30pm in front of the Main Gym. Make sure you bring all required and completed paperwork.
  • August 9-11: Tryouts from 5:30-7:30pm on the PHS practice field
  • August 12: Tryouts from 9:00-11:00am on the PHS practice field or scrimmage (time/place TBA)

For every day of tryouts you will need to bring the following: cleats, running shoes, shin guards, an inflated ball with your name on it, and plenty of water.

Soccer Program Expectations and Guidelines

Tryouts Week is August 9-12 from 6:00-8:00pm (Note: the August 12 tryout may be in the morning). Items needed: cleats, sneakers [fitness work], proper practice attire, water (minimum 5 bottles) and shin guards.

Week of August 14: JV and Varsity practices begin the week of August 14 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Scrimmage vs. Tuscarora on August 30, JV 5:00pm, and Varsity 7:00pm.

All-Day Tournament for Varsity only on September 2.

Week of September 4: Regular practice starts – games may be scheduled this week. There will be practice on 4th – if we have a game then practice will be on the 5th. Practices for Varsity will be 4:00-5:30pm – JV more likely 2:45-4:00pm.

Girls Tennis

Tryouts will be held on August 9 and 10 from 9:00-11:00am (with a make-up date of August 11 in case of rain-out/inclement weather). The roster would be announced after tryouts are completed. Bring all necessary forms to the first day of practice.

Team practices will begin on August 22 and continue through August 31 from 9:00-11:00am. There will be no practice on September 1.

Girls Volleyball

Tryouts begin on Saturday, August 12 from 8:30-10:30am in the Main Gym. Please make sure you have proper attire and gear, just water, tennis shoes and have all MCPS forms complete and ready to turn in to the coach.
