MCPS and Poolesville High School are excited to announce that registration for Fall Sports opens Monday, July 15th at noon! Below is information regarding the upcoming sports seasons, including Fall, Winter and Spring, as well as the registration process.

How to Register

Students must be registered by a parent through the MCPS ParentVue Portal. More information regarding the registration process can be found on the MCPS Athletics Website. Registration will remain open through noon Monday, August 12, 2024. Registration will close on this date to allow the Athletic Specialist to get approved lists to the coaches.

ParentVue Troubleshooting Information 

If a parent is having trouble logging into the MCPS ParentVue Portal:

  • If you have never activated your parent account:
    Parents were sent activation information at the beginning of the school year, which included an Activation Key. If you still have this information, use it to activate your parent account. If you do not have the activation information, email  Be sure to include the student’s name, ID and parent name in the email.
  • Forgot your password? Click on the Forgot Password link on the ParentVue Portal.
  • Forgot the email address you used to activate your account? Email or Athletic Specialist Be sure to include the student’s name, ID and parent name in the email.

Pre-Participation Physicals

Students should complete their pre-participation physical (MCPS Form SR-8) so that the medical eligibility form (last page of SR-8) is ready for online submission or for electronic submission to the Athletic Specialist prior to tryouts/practices. Physicals are valid for 13 months. Physicals can be uploaded by the parent during the registration process. However, if a parent needs to submit a physical after the student has already been registered, email an electronic copy of the pre-participation physical (MCPS Form SR-8) to Poolesville Athletic Specialist Physicals need to be submitted BEFORE students can begin participating.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Fall Season will begin on August 14th, the Winter Season will begin on November 15th, and the Spring Season will begin on March 1st.  The schedule of tryouts/practices for each team will be sent out a couple weeks before the first day. Once teams are made practices will continue throughout the season. Coaches will communicate the times of practices with the team.  Download the Fall 2024 Tryouts/Practices Schedule
The practice schedule will likely be Monday through Friday and some Saturday practices. Coaches will communicate practice information with students through email and other social media applications. Fall sports schedules will be posted as soon as possible on the Booster Club website. They will also be posted on County Sports Zone.
Fall: Cheer, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Flag Football - Girls, Football, Golf, Pickleball-Corollary, Poms, Boys and Girls Soccer, Girls Volleyball Winter: Boys and Girls Basketball, Bocce-Corollary, Cheer, Poms, Swimming and Diving, Indoor Track and Field, Wrestling Spring: Baseball, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Softball, Boys and Girls Tennis, Outdoor Track and Field, Boys and Coed Volleyball.
When registering, the parent/guardian must declare only one sport per season. However, if a student wants to change his/her sport prior to the start of tryouts, the parent/guardian must email the PHS Athletic Specialist at in advance of tryouts/first day. Similarly, if a student tries out for a team and does not make it (or decides to change sports after the first tryout date), the parent/guardian must email PHS Athletic Specialist. The coach of the sport will have to approve the move before the student begins.
Unfortunately, transportation is not provided to and from tryouts and practices. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation. Additionally, students may not remain on campus for extended periods of time before or after tryouts and practices. They need to leave right after practice ends if driving or be picked up promptly at the end of practice.

Yes! Registration through ParentVue is required to be able to participate in each season. 
The practice schedule will be Monday through Friday and Saturday practices for some teams. The schedule of tryouts/practices for each team will be sent out a couple weeks before the first day. Coaches will communicate practice information with students through email and sport canvas classroom once teams are finalized. The Athletic Schedule is posted on the booster/athletic website.
This will depend on the sport and the number of student registrations. Coaches will communicate this information to the students on the first day. 
YES! This is a competitive high school sport. Our coaches have the same expectations on the field as the teachers in the classroom.
No. Your child must be in all their scheduled classes each day. If they miss/skip class they cannot practice or play.
$5.00 for everyone plus a $1.00 fee. Children 10 and under with a paying adult are admitted free, Over 62 are also admitted free. All tickets are purchased through GoFan. PHS is all digital.
The student/parent needs to let their coach know the day before the absence. It is called a pre-approved absence. They will also need to bring in a note from the appointment to their coach to be able to participate that day. They also must sign in and out of the main office. This will allow them to participate on the day they miss class.  Email the Athletic Specialist, 24hrs ahead. Emergencies will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
This test is now optional. The student will receive an email from Impact Test to their gmail account if they want to take the test. Click on the link provided and take the test. Ms. Grubb will get the completion results and update the database.
An athletic pass can be purchased from the athletic department at any time. It will allow the bearer admission to the home game without waiting to buy a ticket. If you attend many sporting events at PHS, it can be a money saver. They are only good for PHS home regular season games. No playoffs or away games.  Passes can be purchased online via GoFan.
You can volunteer to work at the home games, you can join the booster club, you can ask the coach.

Students must maintain a 2.0 with no more than one E to participate in MCPS Athletics. First year 9th graders are eligible for the entire first year.
